Pet-Safe Trio: Three Cat & Dog Friendly Plants

Most "pet-friendly" plant lists get it wrong. Every plant in this trio is on the ASPCA's non-toxic list for both cats and dogs — no guessing, no hedging, no "mildly irritating."

What's in the box

• Calathea 'Dottie' — deep, almost-black leaves with hot pink pinstripes and a purple underside. Thrives in low to medium light, loves humidity. Our best seller.
• Spider Plant 'Bonnie' — the curly-leaved spider plant. Nearly impossible to kill, sends out baby plantlets you can pot up and give away, and cleans your air while it does it.
• Peperomia 'Marble' — thick, waxy, jade-and-cream leaves on a compact little plant. Water it like a succulent and forget about it. Perfect for a desk or shelf.

All three arrive in 4" nursery pots, ready to drop into a decorative pot or stay as they are.

Care at a glance

• Light: bright indirect to medium. None of the three want direct sun.
• Water: when the top inch of soil is dry. The Peperomia wants less than the other two.
• Difficulty: beginner. The Spider Plant and Peperomia are as forgiving as houseplants get.
